Market Research (Steel)- Sr. Officer / Assistant Manager
Job Description
The position is responsible for generating actionable market research and competitive insights for the steel and building materials market. The role supports management decisions through field research, dealer and channel assessment, fabricator/stockist and contractor feedback, competitor tracking, pricing intelligence, data validation, and evidence-based business recommendations.
Key ResponsibilitiesCollect, verify, and summarize steel market information through field visits, dealer/distributor interviews, fabricator and stockist interactions, contractor feedback, desk research and stakeholder coordination.
Conduct surveys, market assessments, outlet observations, project/site intelligence, channel checks, and customer feedback collection for the steel market.
Track competitor activities, pricing movements, trade schemes, product availability, distribution, visibility, trade sentiment, and local market changes.
Prepare routine steel market research reports, dashboards, price trackers, data tables, charts, and field observation notes for management review.
Support steel market share, market size, demand, pricing, channel, and category analysis using approved templates and source records.
Maintain clean datasets, source logs, visit records, evidence registers where permitted, and version-controlled working files.
Escalate unusual market movements, competitor actions, customer sentiment issues, pricing gaps, or channel risks to the reporting manager.
Ensure confidentiality, source traceability, proper version control, and professional handling of all reports, datasets, dashboards, and communications.
Experience
- 2 to 5 years
- The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s): Manufacturing (FMCG), IT Enabled Service, Shipping, Food (Packaged)/Beverage, Agro based firms (incl. Agro Processing/Seed/GM), Group of Companies, Packaging Industry, Cement Industry, Steel
Education
Master’s / MBA / BBA in Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, Marketing or a related discipline
Degree from a reputed public or private university
Additional Requirements
- Age At least 24 years
Minimum 2–5 years of relevant experience in market research, field intelligence, competitor tracking, channel research, business reporting, category intelligence, or planning support
Experience in steel, building materials, construction, dealer/distributor channel, fabricator/stockist network, or project/site market research will be preferred
Candidates currently working at Sr. Officer or Assistant Manager level in market research or related business research roles are encouraged to apply
Skills & Competencies
Strong capability in business research, primary and secondary research, qualitative and quantitative methods, and structured fieldwork
Good understanding of SWOT, competitor analysis, pricing analysis, channel analysis, market sizing, and category intelligence
Ability to prepare structured reports, dashboards, data tables, presentations, and concise business recommendations
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and/or Google Workspace, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Docs, and Sheets
Strong communication, stakeholder coordination, and presentation skills
Practical understanding of steel market channels, dealer/distributor dynamics, fabricator/stockist network, contractor influence, project/site intelligence, and price competitiveness
